Maarten Donders (born 1968, Eindhoven, the Netherlands) studied at the St. Joost Academy in Breda, where he specialized in sculptural and monumental design. His artistic practice now spans sculpture, wall pieces, installations, and textile works, unified by a deep engagement with material, structure, and transformation.
Donders’ work explores the human need for orientation, the search for meaning within shifting landscapes of experience. He often draws upon labyrinthine structures and cartographic forms, seeing them as metaphors for movement, memory, and identity.
Through organic rhythms and layered compositions, his works evoke both clarity and mystery: maps that guide yet invite us to lose direction. They trace the boundaries between order and chaos, presence and absence, the visible and the unseen.
For Donders, every work is a fragment of a larger journey, a conversation between body and space, between material and imagination. His sculptures and textile pieces become vessels of transformation, charting the quiet tension between what we can hold and what perpetually escapes our grasp.

Maarten Donders (1968, Eindhoven) studeerde aan de St. Joost Academie in Breda, waar hij zich specialiseerde in sculpturale en monumentale vormgeving. Zijn werk omvat sculpturen, wandobjecten, installaties en textiele werken, verbonden door een voortdurende zoektocht naar balans tussen orde en chaos, tussen materie en verbeelding.
Donders onderzoekt de menselijke behoefte aan oriëntatie: het verlangen om richting te vinden binnen veranderende landschappen van ervaring. Labyrintische structuren en kaartachtige vormen keren vaak terug als metaforen voor beweging, herinnering en identiteit.
Zijn werken ademen een poëtische spanning tussen helderheid en mysterie. Ze functioneren als stille kaarten die uitnodigen om te dwalen, te verdwalen, en opnieuw richting te vinden. Elk werk is een fragment van een grotere reis, een dialoog tussen lichaam, ruimte en tijd, waarin de sporen van menselijke aanwezigheid voelbaar blijven.
