How does a form emerge, and when does it acquire meaning? In his sculptures, Maarten Donders explores the possibilities of material, form and imagination. Wood, bronze and other materials become the starting point for a process in which initial ideas may evolve and unexpected connections emerge.

Organic structures, traces of human presence and imagined forms play varying roles in this exploration. Sometimes new meanings arise from bringing different elements together; at other times, from the development of a single form. Each sculpture follows its own path, with an outcome that is not always predetermined.
