An Invitation to Wander Hedendaags Kunstkabinet Exhibition Den Bosch (7 Feb 2026)
From 7 February through 8 March 2026, I will present a body of work not shown before. This exhibition at the Hedendaags Kunstkabinet in Den Bosch unfolds as a dialogue between sculptures and textiles , works that breathe into one another.
What Remains of the Journey? uses the journey as a metaphor for the ways we move through life: often searching, sometimes disappearing, constantly transforming. Maarten Donders’ works do not depict a literal route, but the traces, shifts, and fragments that emerge along the way. What matters is not the destination, but what remains as time, landscape, and perspective continue to drift.
Donders explores what usually escapes our notice. Subtle displacements, inner turns, unnoticed moments where meaning quietly accumulates. Each work functions as a fragment of a larger, elusive whole: pieces of a labyrinth that never fully reveals itself, yet continually invites us to enter.
The textile works unfold a field of lines and nodes, as if thought-paths, memories, or energetic routes have been made visible. They are maps of something that resists clear sight; structures that exist as much within us as outside us. The sculptures add a tangible layer. They resemble residual forms of growth, condensations of time, or organisms that have taken on a new shape while in motion.
Together, the works form a landscape in transition.
A body changing direction.
A movement becoming form, and form returning to movement.
What Remains of the Journey? does not ask where we come from or where we are going. Instead, it focuses on the subtle territory in between: moments we cannot fully grasp, places we never entirely reach, forms that continue to change as we look at them. Here, the journey is not a line, but a layered, pulsing network of choices, traces, branches, and metamorphoses.
What remains of a journey that is never completed?
Perhaps precisely this: these fragments, these inner maps, these quiet signs of a greater movement that continues, even when we stand still.
